By "ancient Indians" do you mean the indigenous population on the area we now call India/Pakistan
..yes, more and less ! I'm also mindful of the fact that the land of Ur [Abraham's ancestral home] was in close proximity [personal opinion]. Here I'm suggesting the social and ethnic make of moralising religious belief and value on a regional level.
or the Indo-European invaders who make up the largest population of "desis" in India?
The ancient Indians would be the likes of the Dravidians [Sri Lankans, Tamil Naidu, Etc.] and the crisscross aborigine's [pre-continental shift]. The faired skin, sharp features are the remnants of the Aryans that almost annihilated the Indus Valley civilisation. Sizeable Punjabi population falls within that category.
