Is It Better To Just Insulate Yourself In Your Own World?

Prose has more or less a literal translation. Poetry, that is one of the reasons the truth was revealed thus in the Guru Granth Sahib ji by the Guru's. A profound reason that they chose poetry. So one can feel the truth.

Poetry affects each soul in its own way. Some find it soothing, some find it uplifting, some draw strength, hope, inspiration and so much else. The same hymn can mean differently with each recitation depending on one's state of mind or spiritual progress.

Is it not amazing that we find a new perspective each time we let the same Bani penetrate our soul?.
The truth is the same, is one, is Akaal but just the fact that we see it from a better vantage point with the tiny spiritual progress some fortunate souls make.

You can compel the Bani to resonate in your soul using just a little teeny weeny bit of will. The Bani compels one to fall in love and then one begins to contemplate, guide and lead one towards the wondrous truth.

The Bani is poetry of the highest order. Just being around within earshot provides so much solace. Just imagine how basking in its beauty will do.
Exactly the use of poetry forces one to digest and engage in "khoj" it reminds us how fragile and elusive the truth 'we' construct around us is. And that the only truth that we can discern is 1

The only objective truth is the One.
All else is subjective.
Coming to this simple realization is huge, and at least for me, really contributed to an 'awakening.'

The way that Sikhi uses terms such as "The Ultimate Reality" and "Truth" to describe God/as names for God really resonates with me.

Bro the crazy thing I find is how whatever' truth 'I find I know that it will be undermined.. And I welcome that.. I welcome criticism it forces me to grow. The only one unquestionable reality, dogmatic truth I know is' 1"

And whatever truth we find, may be undermined by our own selves in the future! When we keep evolving our perspectives, it definitely contributes to growth.

Criticism from others can sometimes sting initially - but this is our ego. And we have to be able to take it, and the more we can do that, the more we can question, and grow - the more the ego can be contained. And the more the ego can be contained, the more open we can become. Its a great cycle that helps us realize the subjectivity of everything, except the All Pervasive One.

I think criticism is healthy it either leads one to reaffirm a belief or reconsider it, and when if we do either but because of our ego be obtuse then it creates friction in our minds

And there seems to always be some friction in the mind! Whether its criticism from others, or us criticizing and reflecting on our own- at least for me, obtaining a 'state of peace' in the mind doesn't really happen.....just always thinking, brain always contemplating. Its good to think, but it can also trap you in duality....

we're just Nothing- that's great peace and that's Sehaj.

Mool mantar.. God Is One, He is All so love him in All, and there is nothing and noone to fear, for He is All.

Nirboah and Nirvair are the preliminary laws, stop applying these and the Bhagat loses sight of Truth.

The reality is Nothing-No image no form-just the formless unchanging Truth.

Sikh brothers and sister, realize that the West is not the way it is protrayed in Hindi movies, nor is it the way it protrayed in all modern Western education and most media. The elites/globalists/zionists are running the show and they are power-hungry sociopaths, satanists, and pedophiles who want to enslave the peoples of the world. They are way worse than the RSS Indian government because they both hate European/American prosperity and freedom, AND are 100 times more powerful than it. We Westerners have fallen asleep at the wheel and let our civilization go down the drain morally, politically, and economically. All the promises of the Left: "Diversity", "Tolerance", "Human Rights", "Social Justice" are just empty socialist promises which are only serving the purpose of tearing down what is left of a cohesive western culture and civilization. They have nothing to do with virtue and morality, and always result in empowering these diabolical elites further. This is almost an accomplished fact, as most westerners now hate themselves as much as everybody else both envies and hates them. The Swedes and Germans, once great peoples, are now committing suicide to assuage their ancestral guilt, as if the Arabs and Muslims never did any wrong...
So nut up and start getting busy doing something about it rather than spending your time being depressed wishing for a better world. It is the Will of the Lord that the world is how it is right now, and our job to do what is moral and right DESPITE it all, even if we all loose our heads in the process. Work hard. Help people. Pray. Promote Sikhism. Get fit. Train hard. Buy weapons. Build local community. Store up supplies. Learn skills. Save gold and silver. Vote for anti-establishment candidates. The crash is coming.

Brother, endless speculation and debate will only lead to self-doubt and inactivity in the guise of philosophic 'truth-seeking'. If morality is highy subjective then how can our Creator and Lord reward and punish us for anything? What is the basis of karma if no deeds are truely right and wrong? Our Holy Book and the lives of our Gurus give us clear guidance on many, many issues. They teach remembrance of God Almighty. They teach charity and sharing. They teach us economic independence. They teach us courage in the face of adversity and oppression. They teach freedom of religion, and yet not some modern liberal religious and moral relativism. Look there for a life plan and guidance if you are in doubt. Teach what you know and apologize for any errors.

I have spoken about 'living' gurus and cults in my intro post. You can do your own research on these various groups online and in books. The 3HO is a Hindu/Sikh blend which has brought many Americans to a distorted form of Sikhism, mixed with Shivaite Yogic practices. But it has done some good. The Namdharis just lost their aged 'guru' with no successor, so their whole movement is about to collapse.

This is not the path of ancient Indian or Greek Philosophy. Act on what you believe to be the Will of the Lord. Why would Nanak exort us to do so if this were not possible?

oh ok, I'll just follow blindly then,

. If morality is highy subjective then how can our Creator and Lord reward and punish us for anything?

Sorry, I was unaware I was being rewarded or punished along the way, am I? of course morality is subjective, I consider myself a moral person, however most consider me immoral

What is the basis of karma if no deeds are truely right and wrong?

Ah I did not say that, just that some of what you call good deeds are far from, and the same applies to so called bad deeds, in the big picture, it is sometimes to see the consequences of your actions, might be short term good and long term bad, oh, I don't believe in karma, but I know it is an established foundation for some Sikhs.

Our Holy Book and the lives of our Gurus give us clear guidance on many, many issues
no they didn't, our Holy Book is still being interpreted using very outdated and confusing terms, I have yet to meet anyone that can give definitive answers on what Naam is, what Hukaam is, the lives of our Gurus have become lost in Sakhis, that change on a yearly basis,

They teach remembrance of God Almighty
to what end?
They teach charity and sharing.
they teach intelligent charity and sharing, all charity and all sharing is not by default, good.
They teach us economic independence.
Yes, but it is a pity that no one told Masterji this when partition happened.
They teach freedom of religion, and yet not some modern liberal religious and moral relativism.
true freedom is to be free of everything, including religion, I always thought of Sikhism as a way of life, rather than a religion.
ook there for a life plan and guidance if you are in doubt
thanks, I'm fine as I am
Teach what you know and apologize for any errors.
Nah, I'll just stand here at laugh at the naked emperors, its much more fun.
Why would Nanak exort us to do so if this were not possible?

A true liberal; Nothing about facts and reality. It's all about your feelings!

Some truths are hard to take. It's not a 'premise' but the result of years of paying attention to what is really going on from courageous independent alt-media people who are not making huge salaries working for news corporation linked to the govenments. Break out of the corporate media stranglehold on information, brother. TV is lying to you. Things are getting VERY bad in West and about to get much worse. The West is no safe haven to just get an education and make a lot of money. Freedom requires struggle against authorities who would always exploit us, and we all have gotten lazy in that struggle. WW3 will be much worse than WW2. Protect your family and people while you can.

Seems like you are in a quandry about your faith. Don't know what I can tell you there. I came to Sikhsim after a long road and much searching myself, not any blind faith. I am aware of the divides within Sikhism and the contentious issues like vegetarianism and Khalistan. All I am saying is that we can't let that paralyze us. When will the faith be united enough to share with others?

Being clever really doesn't get us anywhere, brother. I have a Master's degree in South Asian studies and one in Philosophy, so I have had many, many years of reading, writing, and discussing all these issues with people probably smarter than you. They talk and talk and yet in the end they are the same people doing nothing positive in the world besides talking and creating more talkers. I don't see Sikhism as a faith for those who would be philosphers in the modern academic or even classical Greek sense. Where in the history of the Gurus is there a place for such endless skepticism? Things must be debated and considered as a Panth, but no faith will get you far if everything is up to the individual. The ego is too strong.

I think you would find more kindred souls on the Church of the Churchless blog, rather than trying to discourage new Sikh converts like me with their first posting.

not at all, I am not a great believer in faith, I like facts, things that add up, things that make sense, but luckily, you are here to guide me, hooray!

Don't know what I can tell you there.

Not a huge amount, but then again, I am not really asking, so don't worry about helping me too much.

I came to Sikhsim after a long road and much searching myself, not any blind faith.

Which Sikhism did you come to, could you describe the facets of your Sikhism? as there are many

I am aware of the divides within Sikhism and the contentious issues like vegetarianism and Khalistan.

Neither are contentious issues, the first is irrelevant, the latter impossible.

All I am saying is that we can't let that paralyze us. When will the faith be united enough to share with others?

Well, firstly, consistency would be good, hard to share a faith that overlaps so much.

Being clever really doesn't get us anywhere, brother.

I wouldn't know

I have a Master's degree in South Asian studies and one in Philosophy, so I have had many, many years of reading, writing, and discussing all these issues with people probably smarter than you

Ah, i see you have conquered ego, well done!

Where in the history of the Gurus is there a place for such endless skepticism?

uhm Sikhism was founded on skepticism, its what made it different.

I think you would find more kindred souls on the Church of the Churchless blog, rather than trying to discourage new Sikh converts like me with their first posting.

I am sorry you feel that way, here its called honest debate. Maybe it is you that should be looking for more kindred souls, try fluffyphilosophy.com. no one argues, no one raises points, everyone just agrees and hugs each other!
