HELP MAKE POVERTY HISTORY at the ARTISTS’ REVOLUTION PARTY
21st June 2010, London, UK
Music is of the soul. It can communicate profound messages about who we are and who we want to be; this is something that the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Sahib Ji, and his constant companion, Bhai Mardana Ji, understood beautifully. With this in mind, when the Human Culture Collective asked UNITED SIKHS to be involved in their World Arts for World Issues event alongside organizations like Amnesty International and Fairtrade, we seized the opportunity, and ran with it to create a special contribution to a rich and interactive programme. The result is that music will play whilst we focus on poverty issues through film and talks on Saturday, 26th June 2010 at 6pm at The cargo in London. See poster here for details and ticket sales.
In addition to music from brilliant British tabla maestro Talvin Singh and Indian sitarist Niladri Kumar, UNITED SIKHS will bring you informative discussions and a film screening, all to help the needy. And of course where there are Sikhs there will be langar (free community food)!
UNITED SIKHS will be focusing on the "Make Poverty History"(MPH) campaign which aims to tackle root causes of poverty by changing international policies, exemplifying better aid for needy people while lobbying the G8.
“For example, one of the projects under the MPH campaign is “Rescue a Family”, which gives you the chance to sponsor a needy family in Panjab whose breadwinner has committed suicide because of debt, helping them survive and move towards a brighter future,” said Preetkamal Kaur, the UNITED SIKHS film and media event organizer.
There is more information about Rescue a Family at UNITED SIKHS::Recognize the Human Race as One and you can always look out for the UNITED SIKHS desk on the night: you’ll get a chance to speak to the team and pick up the literature.
Our inspiring film will present UNITED SIKHS’ work helping displaced Sikhs in Pakistan. We helped 24 displaced families in Peshawar by providing financial assistance to rehabilitate them after they fled from their homes in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan due to threats from the Taliban and communal conflict. It’s a serious problem and you can help!
So join us to learn more and enjoy a night of exciting culture and musical performance benefiting people in need around the world. VIP and standard tickets are available prior to the event: buy yours and we will see you there!
