Ishna ji, It is probably because they believe in it. As much as you believe that the ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ (Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji) is a "person". As much as you believe that japping naam will give you peace. As much as you believe it's worth spending your hard earned money on your tithe if you do that as a Sikh. Everyone has things they believe in. I've known some card readers. I've had a reading done once. It's no less a waste of time if you feel like spending your money on that than going to the movies or to a casino...and while I'm not a gambler and not into the casino life, I can't say that's evil if you treat it like any other outing. Your movie costs you 20$? If you go with the intention of spending maximum 20$ and stick to that and don't go over with "one last game" and yet one more last game, etc. It's your fun. Some people play bingo in a crowded room too. It's all what works for you. :) I also bought my daughter a tarot card starter kit for Xmas, because she's interested in learning about it.
