Ludhiana, Punjab (February 23, 2013): It is learnt that Bhai Baldev Singh Wadala, a Hazoori Ragi of Sri Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) refused to do Gurbani Kirtan at the bhog of a former Punjab Police DSP Swaran Singh alias Ghotna.

Former DSP of Punjab Police Swaran Ghotna

Some media circles have reported that the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee had laid a “duty” on a Hazoori Ragi Bhai Baldev Singh Wadala to do Kirtan at the Bhog of Ghotna but when the Ragi came to know about the fact, he refused to join this particular duty.

It is learnt that Roop Singh, Secretary of SGPC attempted to presurise Bhai Baldev Singh Wadala to attend the Bhog of DSP Ghotna but Bhai Wadala refused to do so.

It is notable that during 1980s-90s DSP Swaran Singh Ghotna was an infamous Punjab police cop who committed mass level atrocities on the civilian Sikh population besides, the atrocities on family members of the Sikh militants.

It has been further reported by the local media that the Bhai Baldev Singh Wadala has appealed to all the Ragi singhs to not to attend the bhog of Swaran Ghotna as he was a human rights abuser who had committed many atrocities on Sikhs.

It is notable that Swaran Ghotna had died on February 16, 2013 and his last rites shall reportedly be performed by his family on February 24, 2013 at their Jalandhar based residence.

In a very odd twist of this story, the Hindustani times reports ..... the SGPC does not acknowledge it "laid a duty" on the ragi Baldev Singh Wadala... rather SGPC is "taking strong notice" that Captain Amarinder Singh of the Congress Party criticized the ragi for refusing to perform at the bhog of a brave soldier.

Today's version of the story!

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has taken a strong notice of the statements by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt Amarinder Singh and senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia, criticising a 'hazuri ragi' of the Golden Temple for his refusal to perform 'kirtan' at the

'bhog' ceremony of former Punjab Police officer, late Swaran Singh, who had been in the forefront in the battle against terrorism.

There are 2 sides to every story. The amazing thing is no one ever says "Oops, there was a misunderstanding." Or, "We were misquoted!"

Are we once again being treated to one more wind-up? Both newspaper stories are carefully worded. It almost doesn't matter if the press has to waddle along to report the facts in a story like this. Who can hold them to a high standard?
