PATIALA: The CBI court in Patiala has fixed August 5 as next date for hearing the murder case of Harpreet Kaur, daughter of former SGPC chief Jagir Kaur. The court adjourned the hearing as main complainant in the case had sought exemption from personal appearance due to registration of another FIR against him in Begowal police station of Kapurthala.

"Since the main complainant in the case against Jagir Kaur, Kamaljit Singh, has not got anticipatory bail in a FIR registered at Begowal police station on July 13, he sought exemption from personal appearance. The bail application of Kamaljit will be heard on July 25 at Kapurthala sessions court," said Arun Singla, counsel for Kamaljit.

About bail application, Singla disclosed that police have registered a FIR against Kamaljit under sections 323 and 326 almost a year after an alleged fight between Kamaljit and supporters of Jagir Kaur.

In February 2010, while turning hostile, Kamaljit had claimed that around nine years back, petitions in Punjab and Haryana High Court for registration of FIR against Bibi Jagir were filed by some fictitious human rights organizations and not by him.

But in May 2011, in his application, he contradicted his own statement and confessed that all documents submitted in Punjab and Haryana High Court and even the Supreme Court were signed by him.

Demanding his re-examination, Kamaljit had filed an application in the CBI court here on March 21 and later in another hearing, he confirmed that the application was filed by him. He had alleged in his application that during the trial, he could disclose the truth to court as he was under the pressure from the main accused Jagir Kaur, who is very close to Punjab government.

"The incident occurred on April 30, 2010 and police registered a FIR on July 13, 2011. Kamaljit had alleged in his bail application that police did not take any action as earlier he had turned hostile in Hapreet Kaur murder case.
