Gurudwara Lakhi Jungle is situated near Village Mehma Sarja, Distt Bathinda at a distance of 15 Km from Bathinda City and 6 Km from town Goniana Mandi. Mehma Sarja is a Village in Bathinda Tehsil in Bathinda District of Punjab State, India and 223 KM from State capital Chandigarh. Mehma Sarja village is located in Bathinda tehsil of Bathinda district in Punjab, India. It is situated 22km away from Bathinda, As per 2009 stats, Mehma Sarja village is also a gram panchayat. The total geographical area of village is 2773 hectares. Mehma Sarja has a total population of 7,991 peoples, in about 1,573 houses. According to Census 2011 information the location code or village code of Mehma Sarja village is 035756 and pincode is 151201 and postal head office is Goniana Mandi. (1) Guru Nanak Dev blessed this place and recited Holy 'Japji Sahib'. (1) (7) (8)This place which was earlier dense and dry forest came to be known as Lakhi Jungle since an anecdote was attached that Guru Nanak recited Japuji Sahib here one lakh times. It is also said that there a sadhu named Lakhi used to stay here. He tied Chandu (who was responsible for the martyrdom of Fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjun Dev) with a Karir tree, which still exists here. That Karir is now known as Killa Sahib.</p><p></p><p>Guru Har Rai and Guru Gobind Singh are also visited this place during his journeys. Guru Gobind Singh came here from Rameana (3) blessed this place as 'Place of liberation'. He took the milk of brown and black Cow of Bhai Soma and blessed him with milk and son. He brushed his teeth with a twig of <em>Phalahi tree (datan</em>) and buried the twig at this place, which has now become a full-fledged tree of <em>Phalah</em>i. The Sikhs who had been left behind met the Guru at Lakhi Jungle. Guru Gobind recited this hymn here. Lakhi Jungle Khalsa aan didar ditto ne. Sun ke sad mahi da meeri paani ghah muto ne.(3)(5) Seeing the jungle around, Guru Gobind Singh said to Bhai daan Singh, “ These jungles are of Lakhs of rupees.” Bhai Veer Singh states that Guruji held a Kavi Darbar at this place. A water tank constructed by Bhai Bhagtu exists nearby. Sakhi Pothi has following rcord of the place, “Next day, Kdah parsasd was prepared at large scale (<em>prantan laian</em>) and got a young horse. The entire village came to celebrate the occasion and had <em>darshan </em>of Guru ji. Kadah Parsad was distributed. The horse was also donated. Guru Ji said, “ This is Lakhi Jungle” Guru j stayed here for three days. (3) The initial building was got constructed by Maharaja Harinder Singh of Faridkot by making a Lage Gurdwara complex. Ni9hang Singh have the control of the Gurdwra. 35 acres of land was donated by Faridkot state (7) The premises of of the shrine include a massive sarovar as well as a langar hall open round the clock.
