Guru Ji’s answers:
Guru ji peg the solution to the acquisition of wisdom. Guru ji state that it is negatively impacted by excessive self indulgence. Guru ji state that the focus needs to be the creator’s wisdom and creator’s benevolence coupled to such acquisition of wisdom.ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ॥ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਖੈ ॥
Jam ḏar bāḏẖe ko▫e na rākẖai. Bin sabḏai nāhī paṯ sākẖai.
Restrained at death’s door, no one can help. Without wisdom no honor, trust.

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨ ਬੁਝੈ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥੫੫॥
Ki▫o kar būjẖai pāvai pār. Nānak manmukẖ na bujẖai gavār. ||55||
How to discover, so as to cross over? Nanak, self willed fool cannot understand.
ਕੁਬੁਧਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰ ॥
Kubuḏẖ mitai gur sabaḏ bīcẖār. Saṯgur bẖetai mokẖ ḏu▫ār.
Bad intellect erased through contemplation in wisdom of the creator. In benevolence of meeting the true creator, door of salvation.
ਤਤੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥
Ŧaṯ na cẖīnai manmukẖ jal jā▫e. Ḏurmaṯ vicẖẖuṛ cẖotā kẖā▫e.
Not recognizing the essence, the self willed so burnt. Through bad intellect separates, suffers injuries.
ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਭੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੫੬॥
Mānai hukam sabẖe guṇ gi▫ān. Nānak ḏargėh pāvai mān. ||56||
Accepting of the direction, all virtues and wisdom. Nanak, in final abode receives honor.
The self willed get burnt and lead to bad intellect. The ultimate honor is received by those in consonance with creator’s dictum.
