Govt for release of Sikh prisoners after term

LAMBI: Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday said the state government plans to talk to other state governments for early release of Sikh youths languishing in jails despite completing their prison term. The move came a day after former chief minister Amarinder Singh raised the issue while supporting the cause undertaken by Gurbaksh Singh.

Gurbaksh has been on fast for several days demanding release of 8 Sikhs serving in jails across Punjab in spite of completing their sentences.

While the The former CM on Friday said the issue was above sectarian ideology and should be viewed through the prism of law of the land. Badal said the state government would take up the matter with the respective state governments to ensure the Sikh prisoners were released at the earliest.
