ELK GROVE, Calif. (KCRA) -- The Sikh community, with several other local organizations, have pooled resources to offer a $42,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the March shooting deaths of two grandfathers.
On Sunday, volunteers gathered near the site of the shooting, in what they called a Day of Action. Elk Grove Mayor Steve Detrick and councilmember Sophia Scherman were among those in attendance.
Volunteers went to stores and neighborhoods to post reward information.
"We are here because this crime strikes at the heart of our community," said Bobbie Singh-Allen, a community organizer with Elk Grove First, in a written statement. "We will not rest until the criminals are prosecuted."
Gurmej Singh Atwal and Surinder Singh were killed March 4 while walking in their neighborhood. The news release says both were "turban-wearing Sikhs" and walking peacefully.
Police Captain Brian Noblett said in the statement how frustrating the situation has been, because the department doesn't receive many tips on this homicide. The tips officers do receive have not led to any answers.
