Tuesday, October, 30 2012 - 07:33
AMRITSAR: As the storm Sandy hits the East Coast bringing with it fears of devastation, American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) today appealed all the Sikh Gurdwaras to lend hands to the affected persons. They ordered that all the Gurdwaras in the areas under impact of the storm be converted into shelter homes to make arrangements for providing food and water to those impacted by this devastation.
AGPC President JS Hothi and Coordinator Dr Pritpal Singh said in a joint statement issued from US here today that all efforts would be made to reach out to the affected people. They appreciated the steps taken by the state and Federal government ahead of the imminent danger and said the society at large must also come forward to help the need in this hour of crisis.
Dr Pritpal Singh said US’s East Coast is bracing with the megastorm and AGPC would be working closely with the Official machinery to deal with the Emergency situations. He said the flash flooding, storming winds has effected the power supply. “As the Gurdwaras are often situated in large compounds, having enough food and water in stores, we would like to help the needy in this one of the biggest crisis in the areas, currently facing the impact of the storm,” said the US Sikh leaders.
Hothi and Dr Pritpal urged all the people affected to stay in touch with the state officials and local Gurdwaras in their localities and take shelter for safety and free food. They said the Gurdwaras management had already been asked to store sufficient food as soon as the alarm was sounded for the storm. “We American are all one at during this crisis and we will come out of it,” hoped Dr Pritpal.
