It simply is an acceptance of the following,

• Do your best
• Do all you can
• Whether the outcome is to your liking or preference
  • Graciously accept it without regrets

Hard as it is at times depending on the specifics of a situation, this phrase guides us to move on.

We need to recognize that this phrase never implies for you to simply,

• Sit and watch and not do what you are capable of doing
• Become docile and expect miracles
• Become a non participatory observer and start saying,
  • "Aaape ho jaoo jo rab no manjoor"/ Whatever God wishes will come to be by itself
  • Sikhism does not teach or expect ambivalence

In Devendrapal Singh's case it appears he has done the best he could and then has acceptance. This is the suggested meaning of this phrase in action and a great example of it.
