kggr001 ji, Guru Fateh. I am sorry to say that you are wrong in your assumption of the usage of meditation/meditate in your above post. First, let’s define what meditation is as per English language dictionary. http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/meditate Meditate Verb Focus one’s mind for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation. Let me offer you a bit of background about the literal translations of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in English and why they are flawed and misleading. The earlier translators were all Christian missionaries and hence used a biblical slant in their translations. The Sikh disciples who learnt from them did the same. This is the reason you see Lord- which is a personified deity unlike Ik Ong Kaar- in the English translation of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This is also the reason the majority of them are not only misleading, flawed but also not as per true meaning of Gurbani which is a shame. Meditation and other words are inserted to simplify/or to take a short cut rather than explaining the true meaning which is in Gurmukhi and it is a shame indeed because many Sikhs are misled with the incorrect English translations. In fact I wrote a little piece about “Lord as Ik Ong Kaar” many years ago. Here it is: http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/sikh-sikhi-sikhism/186-lord-as-ik-ong-kaar.html Now, coming back to Meditate/Meditation, you will find the following words from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, our only Guru, used as Meditate/Meditation in different contexts and not all mean the same thing. Hence the question arises which is what and used for what? So, please tell me how you decipher all this in a lay man’s terms. Personally, I think words like Meditation and Lord do not belong in the translation of our visionary Gurbani given to us by our Gurus in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, our only Guru. Some of these words are taken out from your own post above. These references of the words Meditate and Meditation are taken from the following site: http://www.srigranth.org/ ਨਾਮੁ=3303 times naam=2542 times ਸਿਮਰਨ=149 ਭਜਨ=57 times ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ=17 times ਭਜੈ=10 times ਸਿਮਰਤ=175 times ਭਜ=250 times ਵੀਚਾਰਿ=100 times ਭਾਉ=201 times ਧਿਆਨੁ=121 ਮਨਿ= 1443 times ਮਤਿ= 951 times Mind=4987 times Meditation=564 times Meditate= 1613 times Let’s ponder over this a bit. Thanks and regards Tejwant Singh
