History, civilizations, the genetic chains from forefather and foremothers to today are long and winding. Given the Islamic crusades of the times and genocidal intentions of the invaders to convert or kill, what are the chances that we as Sikhs (those who are Sikhs) would even have existed today. I believe such chances would have been near 0% without Baba Nanak ji.

Thank you Baba Nanak ji and all Guru ji for giving us souls fluttering so free and clear today! I forever feel indebted for all around me.

(Religious=Islamic) homogeneity would have prevailed, instead of multiplicity
with the dominance of Qur'an and Abrahamic books
Sinful living would have routed righteousness
The Hindu customs, varnashrams, practices would be barren
Gods, godesses and their temples would have been a thing of the past
the traditions of Vedas, Puranas would be erased forever
Guru Gobind Singh, the perfect savior and bravehood
had he not been there as a manifestation of the Lord

This verse was written by poet Mahakavi Santokh Singh. It is beautiful according to me, as it sums up the social scene that would have been sans the presence of Sikh Gurus. They weren't Anti-Islam, nor Pro-Hindu...but believed in practicing what they preached, equality and brotherhood. All religions may have verses preaching equality and safety for other communities...but is it not the reality that we had crusades, massacres, bloodshed...all in the name of religion.
It is one among the many beauties of Sikhism that it is a standing example of tolerance and peace, even in the composition of its Scripture...
Had the Gurus not been there, we would all be here...but the demographics would certainly have been different.
