I have a guilty conscious my worshipping method is not vey good, let me explain, I started with Mool Mantra because my Punjabi is not very good ,I would get tired and fall asleep and I’m lazy so eventually I just started just saying Ik, eventually I stopped saying Ik too .
I then tried to suggest to God even before I start that I’m going to say his name but then would proceed to do hardly anything other than just lie back and usually fall asleep, this has been my way I'm afraid dear Spners.

I seemed to have convinced him that I’m worshipping him by doing nothing much at all, but occasionally I think he might have noticed that I actually don’t do very much, so then I get clever and I say to him that I intercepted my thought even before I thought it and proceed to assure him that it was about him. <?"urn:<img src=" />
What I mean to say is that we should worship him in our conscious.

Spji,

My own interpretation is that the Creator does not really care whether you pray or not. Creator does not care whether you think of him, act with him in mind, thank him, talk to him, in fact, has no interest in anything you do.

We pray for ourselves, I sure Creator has other things to worry about as to whether he is being thought of, or not, I am sure, unlike the Abrahamic god, Creator does not get angry, or play silly mind games, if we do not worship 'him' or tell 'him' how wonderful he is.

We can worship in our conscious, by acting/speaking/thinking in line with Sikhi, and sharing those acts/speeches/thoughts with Creation, stroking a dog, talking to a stranger, being moved by a shabad, being moved by a pop song, there are may ways to worship, to cherish and to thank, some are pragmatic, some I do not see the point of, all are valid

A BEAUTIFUL PRAYER

I asked God to take away my habit.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.

His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a byproduct of tribulations;
it isn't granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own! ,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.

I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.

I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.
God said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

May God Bless You,

person you just might be the world"

Harry Veer Ji if as you say God is not interested in you then why do you need to be in line with Sikhi?

Anyway I have found my mistake I'm using too much effort ,forcing my will is not the way ,I must try Sikhi lite!

If I may lend a point which may assist you spji,

I have to get my self in line with sikhi so that I may live

This has nothing to do with 'god' and everything to do with me, I do what I do for ME and my sanity, not for anyone else, We have been given a mandate by which to live, if we follow it, We will be in a peaceful and content place, heaven, but on earth.

If we do not follow it than we will suffer from the consequences of our actions and be ill prepared to deal with natural disasters that may occur

I want to be ready to deal with anything that comes my way, and to live in a fashion that enables me to have greater understanding of myself and my environment, and also the Creator, by tuning into the essence in my head, that is why I am a Sikh.

If you love Chemistry and want to study it for your own ends, you will be a better student than one who studies it to impress, or keep happy the teacher

That is where I am at the moment, hope it helps

Veer Ji how can you detach Sikhi from God ,what you are doing is moral living ,Sikhi is not only moral living ,that is morality why call it Sikhi, especially if it is for ones own sake if it is for others sake then perhaps it's Sikhi lite.

Sinner veer ji Sikhi is way of life with a tool kit provided by Guru ji through SGGS that may be of help. To use the tool kit and how is much left to the imagination and capabilities of the owner, each Sikh. No two people handle tools the same way. Some are lefties, some are righties, some are short sighted and some are far sighted, some are overweight and some are under weight and so on. The uniqueness in all.

So we all will treat the tool kit differently. Some will worship how wonderful. Some will study to make best use. Some will find a specific peace awesome japposatnamwaheguru: .Some will become so well in tune that there will be no difference as the tool kit will become a natural extension of their living. Imagination has no limits.

Let us think now that we Sikhs are now in this big collective and everyone has the same tool kit and different capabilities at any point in time. Hence we come together to seek and to share and to give if we can. All the while helping ourselves far and foremost.

Is this free toolkit available for others to enjoy. Of course it is. Let us spread the true meaning of Sikhi to help others if they seek or we think we could help.

Veer Ji

I don't think Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is a tool kit that mean that would mean it is useful ,I've heard the Ultimate Truth called alot of things but tool kit is about the least flattering. It is essential to Sikhi so calling it useful is not quite fitting, perhaps intellect is a tool ,but whether it is sharp or blunt is another matter. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in essence is not a tool it is a jewel.Harry does not need a tool kit to live he has been living perhaps once by immoral means ,changed to moral living and now wants the secret to life itself,if he does not then I guess he wants a tool box! even my eleven year old is equipped with the tools needed to live and he knows right from wrong without consulting Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji ,if anything the Word teaches you how to die ,it is the Guru's who described it as a jewel,it is very precious but only one in a million know it's true worth!

Sinner veer thanks for correcting me wahmunda. I remember another poster's posts and reference to "tool kit" so it kind of stuck in my mind and it became mild case of plagiarism. I find as much wrong with calling it jewel as such. As an adjective in this case but not a noun. My use of tool kit was a metaphor or analogy and perhaps both bad but no badness intended.

I will defer back to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as what it is, Guru or teacher.

Veer Ji You have both sweetness and humility ,no wonder you are much loved by SPNers, your posting and visuals are of an excellent standard and you can do no wrong,if I have spoken disrespectfully ,I apologise unreservedly. It is like you said 6.68 Billion people are not living without a tool kit, they have the tools they need, they just need a light. To salvage the analogy perhaps a diamond can be used as a tool.
All I meant was that both morality and utility existed before Sikhi ,so what Sikhi is must be what is missing from what already existed.
Our Guru could have just wrote Shabad everywhere instead of Naam but he differentiated it for a reason, the particulars of Gurbani deals with much that was prevalent in the day but the essence of Ik ,the instilling of a belief in One God is what Sikhi is about ,We analyse the specifics of a Shabad when we should be really be absorbed in Naam. That is a mind-self plane it is obtained by the distilling of Shabad, but not for the particulars of the Shabad, but instead to produce something which is not immediately apparent ,that subtle something is the name of God. When we know his name we know God.

SPji,

I, of course, disagree with you but is interesting that your aversion to the use of the phrase 'toolkit' and your prefered word 'jewel', in my opinion says what kind of Sikh you are, and what kind of Sikh you wish to be.

My preference for the phrase 'toolkit' also reflects my thoughts on Sikhi likewise, so this is quite interesting.

As you know, at present, I have no time for meditation, prayer, praise or even love for 'god', I do believe that written in the SGGS lies the meaning of life, and how to achieve a state of connection with this energy and force that is the order of the universe, however it is a practical pragmatic set of instructions that must be lived, must be shared, it needs to be read with a hunger for the information, as the highest possible authority on the subject in hand, how to live.

While for you, it represents a jewel, to me this intimates spirituality, something beautiful, precious, the sound of the words, the rythmn, playing in the heavens with the entire universe being in connection with you, stars, planets, swirling masses of space, its magical, its the true essence of creation in its purest and simplest form, a playground to embrace and share in.

For the record, we are both correct :)

Veer Ji Our six Guru's had an aversion to the use of the phrase 'tool kit' and they called it a jewel so I believe them, perhaps you added a page of your own thoughts and in there you called it life skills book ,boy scouts survival kit, tool box ,socket set or whatever else!
My Mad Musketeer a Sikh is he who listens to his Guru ,instead of himself,if you want to be a pragmatist then be a pragmatist, if you want to be a Sikh then hand over your head and be done with it.

Brother,

we are different, you are an idealist, I am a realist, I am sure there is scope within Sikhi to accomodate us both

Ok, now we get to the crux,

Veer Ji Your Guru has your back so relax

These comments scare me, they scare me just like the following

trust in god and everything will be ok
Just believe in Guru and you will be fine
As long as you do right things, nothing bad will happen to you

Well, sorry, but I do not have faith that Guru is watching over me smiling benevolently ready to spring into action to save his faithful Sikh, I do have faith that Guruji kindly left a book which outlines how I can save myself, and I have faith that the information contained will help me hugely, but only I have my back, I , and my actions, and my thoughts, and my spoken word, these combine to either have my back, or ignore it, the effort and the thought have to come from me, not Guruji,

Let Sikh be a man of action and not words. We are responsible for our actions and Guru is the manager of outcomes. There are things which we have to take up ourselves. Comments like Guru has you back, relax will only make us complacent. The way Guru has our back is by giving us Gurbani, by giving us eyes to read Gurbani and ears to listen Gurbani, and a meta-mind-soul hybrid to understand Gurbani and find God. That is all backup we have. Rest is upto ourselves.

sp ji sorry to add to your to do list but mine can be put as the last item. By instilling if you mean living then I find it is quite true.

But if in the above you mean that as soon as you discover Ik gurbani reading or study serves no purpose then I humbly disagree. IK is not just chanting "Waheguru is one" but seeing such and understanding so in daily living. Gurbani through many descriptions in various shabads strengthens the concept of Ik as no one is capable of defining IK so says Gurbani too. So IK is a realizations that cannot stop and Gurbani will always be there to help. Gurbani will not help if you refuse to study, listen and read to understand.

Hope above clarifies how I think and it is not necessarily right or criticism simply an exposition of my thoughts.
