So I've noticed over a long period of time that the English SRM on the SGPC website has occasionally received a little edit or two.
The first time I noticed it I figured I'd imagined it. I can't even remember what it was that I noticed.
And just now I noticed that there is a scanned version of SRM on the SGPC website now - it looks better than the digital version I accessed from 2015 - but there is a little difference in the text itself. Not a change in a footnote, and not a major change.
But it's ruffled me somewhat. The edited entry is in Chapter X, Article XVI, p.
The version in 2015 said: "He who regards another man’s daughter as his own daughter, regards another man’s wife as his mother, has coition with his own wife alone, he alone is a truly disciplined Sikh of the Guru."
The version now, in May 2018, says: "He who regards another man's daughter as his own daughter, regards another man's wife as his mother, has coition with his own wife alone, he alone is a truly disciplined Sikh of the Guru. A Sikh woman shall likewise keep within the confines of conjugal rectitude."
I would have hoped, if they can make this kind of amendment, that the could make a change at the end of Chapter X, Article XVIII, b. It could go from saying "A Sikh's daughter must be married to a Sikh" to "A Sikh's daughter must be married to a Sikh. A Sikh's son must be married to a Sikh."
Have I missed something?
