Israel has a right to conduct military operations to retaliate against Hamas fighters. But the problem is that any military operation has to abide by international humanitarian law, which is designed to spare civilians as much as possible from the hazards of conflict. And these are pretty straightforward rules: . You cannot target civilians. You cannot fire indiscriminately into civilian populated areas. You cannot even attack a military target, if the consequences for civilians will be disproportionate. You cannot besiege civilians and deprive them of humanitarian aid that they need. Israel's right to conduct military operations to retaliate against Hamas fighters. The problem is that any military operation has to abide by international humanitarian law, which is designed to spare civilians as much as possible from the hazards of conflict. An agreement to allow in to Gaza the initial convoy of 20 trucks is a small amount of aid for 2.2 million people. It does not include any fuel that the hospitals need to run their generators. So this is a limited step. There was in fact very little criticism of what has been indiscriminate bombardment by Israeli forces in particularly northern Gaza. So the need is to comply with humanitarian law. Hamas has no other course than to fight tooth nail because now Israel is asking Palestinians to vacate North Gaza so that they can eliminate Hamas. Once North Gaza is taken then they will ask Gazan to vacate south Gaza because Hamas is not yet eliminated. Once hey have taken south Gaza then they will ask them to vacate South Gaza and move to Egypt. It means total capture of Gaza by Israel. Is this acceptable to the people they hand over their land to the enemy this way? This is reason Hamas is fighting for every inch of their land even though intense bombing is going on by Israel protected by US forces. Will the Israel be still safe after it got Gaza vacated? No. The displaced Gazan wont rest till they get their land back. Only alternative is to stop bombardment and come to negotiation table, get their captives released and have a reasonable agreement for long drawn peace. Indiscriminate bombardment cannot buy peace and security for Israel since they cannot destroy so many enemies including Gazan, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Qatar, Iran and above all Hezbollah. Only answer is peace, peace, and peace and not destruction.
