What are your thoughts on me reading Sufi poetry and listening to Sufi music? I just find it beautiful, their principles are very similar to ours. The foundation stone of Harminder Sahib was laid down by Mian Mir by Guru Arjun Dev Ji's request. I see nothing wrong with it as long I keep the one...
Thread moved to Interfaith Dialogs/ Sufism. The OP is basically asking for a comparison between Divine Sound in Sufism and Divine Sound in Sikhi. The title was also changed because early sentences about listening to music in the Espanola NM Gurdwara was an introduction to a broader question...

Hazrat Inayat Khan founded the Universal Sufi Orders in the west. They are not Islamic and take from many traditions. Its pretty awesome actually. At least in my humble opinion.
Here's what Wikipedia says about him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inayat_Khan

Recently I went to the shrine of Hazrat Shaykh Hamza Makhdoom (RA) where yearly celebrations were going on. I saw Muslims and non Muslims - Hindu’s, Sikhs and even Christians - attending the “Dhikr” (remembrance of God) together. I have been to Muslim shrines outside Kashmir and witnessed the...

Baljit Singh*
The word hermeneutics has recently become quite popular among the philosophy, social sciences and literary circles. But this is not something novel or modern. Hermeneutics originally meant interpretation of texts. This goes back...
This article turned up as part of a conversation on another network. The problem put to the forum can be summarized as follows: Both Sikhs and Sufis suffered mightily at the hands of Muslim overlords in northern India. In spite of this shared history, Sikhs and Sufis do not seem to connect...

Due to the confused nature of statements from a minority of people in this forum about the historical connections between Sufism and Sikhism, I attach for everyone's consideration, the following article, obtained from the internet, for deeper consideration and reflection. Readers are warned in...
There are ten principal Sufi thoughts, which comprise all the important subjects with which the inner life of man is concerned.
I
There is One God, the Eternal, the Only Being; none exists save He.
The God of the Sufi is the God of every creed, and the God of all. Names make no...
As a fundamental fact of human existence, death is a theme that is common to both poetry and prophecy. While these two universal genres of discourse differ significantly, both confirm the importance of the remembrance of death (dhikr al-mawt).
The Koran has been described as an Apocalypse, a...
It is a popular notion that all Sufis advocated peace, equality and brotherhood of mankind.
However I cam across the following interesting link.
Perhaps if we have a Sufi follower amongst us, he/she can shed more light on this:
