Prakash ji, Please explain your point already, ...please! I have been reading your posts and expecting that soon you will explain the points you are referring to, such difference between Naamu and Name. I request you to please don't make the readers go guessing, and waiting. It would be so...

Meaning Of This Shabad Please Ang 388

Dear friends, please share what you understand from this shabad. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ Aasaa, Fifth Mehl: ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਖਰ ਦੁਇ ਇਹ ਮਾਲਾ ॥ These two words, Har, Har, make up my maalaa. ਜਪਤ ਜਪਤ ਭਏ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੧॥ Continually chanting and reciting this rosary, God has become merciful to me, His humble servant...

    Baba Sri Chand And Sikhism

Anand Sahib is so lyrical in its flow and how Guru ji takes up each part of the body and addresses it, is lovely. The repetition of lines bring out such a good rhythm. The same style has been used by other Gurus too. The summing up stanzas produce a very good finalizing effect on mind. Its lovely.

    Baba Sri Chand And Sikhism

It seems strange that some stories are being rejected on grounds such as Hindu orientation, while a person walking backwards is being accepted as a sign of devotedness! Isnt this equivalent of relying on outer show to test spirituality? Walking backwards! So, today people who perform teerath...

    Baba Sri Chand And Sikhism

I wish to point out what looks like a flaw in the thought presented. Did the Gurus first looked at their sons for passing on the 'baton' and only if they were found wanting then looked elsewhere in the sangat?

    Baba Sri Chand And Sikhism

Just one point. Would he have received Guruship if he had obeyed Guruji just by virtue of being Guru's son? The point I am trying to make is Guruship was not a matter of family inheritance. Spirituality does not run in genes.

What Is Prayer? Should Sikhs Pray?

Ambarsaria veerji, I pointed out that the concept of Paap and Dharamraaj is present in Gurbani. I did not interpret the concept. If its a metaphor, then be it so.

What Is Prayer? Should Sikhs Pray?

By Jaap I mean traditional repetition of the mantra. The word for me is 'Waheguru'. And thats how i understand the line: ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗਤ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The line accordingly to me clearly points out to the practice. Saas saas means to recite mentally as the breath goes...

What Is Prayer? Should Sikhs Pray?

I do not know what Harry ji means by the word sin as in Abrahmic terms BUT there is concept of PAAP in SGGS. There also a concept of punishment being given by Dharamraaj to jeev-atma who indulges in Paap.

What Is Prayer? Should Sikhs Pray?

I shall add a few words according to my little understanding. Naam is many things at the same time. Sukhmani Sahib elaborates a lot on this. But one thing which needs to be pointed out is that along with other aspects Naam is also the name of God and its recitation as a mantra too. In fact it...

    Dasam Granth - Authority?

Not wishing to get into an argument, I just wish to make a point. For Guru Gobind Singh who besides being a Guru was also a creative writer, a scholar, it was not mandatory that every literary piece he created should be compiled along with Guru Grantha Sahib. In principle and in theory he could...

    Baba Sri Chand And Sikhism

Baba Sri Chand ji has been accepted as an enlightened soul in Sikh history. His chosen way of living was not of a householder. But he did not preach that life of a householder is an obstacle for realizing Brahmagyaan. The sect 'Udasis' started after Baba Sri Chand. And it played a very...

What Is Prayer? Should Sikhs Pray?

It might be helpful to make a distinction between an inferior and a superior types of prayer. The inferior prayer is of a kind that comes out of a desire at a superficial working of the mind. It does not have a root at a deep level of the asker's heart. It does not come from deep and therefore...

What Is Prayer? Should Sikhs Pray?

You are of course right Harry ji. There is a tendency to revert back to lower living after the crisis has passed. It happens with me, it happened with you, it happens with every one. I agree completely. And yes to completely and utterly accept Hukam is what Gurbani preaches to us to reach and...
