WSC-AR Deeply Concerned at Disrespect for Siri Guru Granth Sahib; Appreciates Prompt Action by Siri Akal Takhat Sahib The World Sikh Council - America Region (WSC-AR) is deeply concerned and anguished by a recent video which shows Sikhs dancing in the presence of Siri Guru Granth Sahib at cult dera of Kahna Dhesian, near Goraya, Punjab. Siri Guru Granth Sahib instructs us (page 158-159, English translation): The fools perform devotional worship by showing off, they dance and dance and jump all around they only suffer in terrible pain, by dancing, and jumping, devotional worship is not performed, but one who dies (gets rid of ego) in word of the Sabad , obtains devotional worship. Dr. Manohar Singh, Chairperson of WSC-AR said, "Dancing in the presence of Siri Guru Granth Sahib, our eternal Guru, is against the spirit of the Sikh Rehat Maryada and is shameful to every Sikh worldwide. Such blatant mockery of the Panth must not be tolerated." On this matter, WSC-AR has been in touch with the Shromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), which has jurisdiction over many Gurdwaras of Punjab. We are appreciative of the prompt action taken by Siri Akal Takhat Sahib on July 22 in which the persons involved apologized and willingly accepted the tankah with a promise not to repeat such behavior. A clip of the video dated May 26, 2011 can be seen at bhai jasbir singh paunta sahib wale - Kahna dhesian 26 may 2011.flv‏ - YouTube. It shows Sikhs at the cult dera of Kahna Dhesian doing bhangra and gidha while the prakash of Siri Guru Granth Sahib is underway. The voice of Mr. Hans Raj Hans can be heard leading the crowd in singing and dancing while Bhai Jasbir Singh of Ponta Sahib is seen standing on the stage as an observer. Innocent Sikhs of Punjab continue to be blindsided by such charismatic cults who use Siri Guru Granth Sahib to collect money for promoting their manmat and anti-Sikh activities. WSC-AR hopes that the Sikhs of the Guru in Punjab will stand up to such mockery of Sikhi and with humility as well as respect put an end to such deviant practices. World Sikh Council - America Region (WSC-AR) is the umbrella organization representative of Sikhs in the United States. It is the representative and elected body of Sikh Gurdwaras (Sikh places of worship) and institutions that meet its criteria for membership. Currently 47 Gurdwaras and other Sikh institutions across the nation are members of WSC-AR.
