Re: White Sikhs? I realize this post is over a year old, but I wanted to chime in. I too am a caucasian female, who adopted the Sikh faith. I came to it through the local Sangat and not 3HO. In fact I don't think 3HO even has much presence here at all (if any). So my experience in Sikhi has been through the local Gurdwara, and the Sangat is 90% Punjabi descent. I was lucky in that here we have a few white Sikhs here who converted... not white as in 3HO white turban and white clothes wearing, but I mean Caucasian. One is prominent in Canada in Politics. He married a Punjabi woman, and they have 2 kids. He was also the first 'Gora' to be elected as President of a Gurdwara in Canada. He and his wife took me under their wing when I first started attending the Gurdwara when I was still new and had that fear of the unknown and fear of doing something wrong. Now I go on my own every week, and know most of the Aunties (who always give me hugs) :grinningkudi: Anyway, we do have a few Punjabi Amritdhari women here, and they wear a dastar. Not the style that 3HO women wear, but a smaller round type turban. I plan on getting them to show me how to tie it (like in my avatar) so that when I do Amrit (I plan to in the next couple years at Golden Temple once I save up for the trip). Anyway I wanted to chime in because there are a significant amount of Caucasians who come to Sikhism through regular Sikhism and NOT 3HO / Kundalini Yoga. And I am one of those. In fact, I tried to post a question on Sikhnet once... asking someone to explain to me how kundalini yoga = Sikhism. I referenced 3HO in the question. I did not attack 3HO in the question at all... I was simply asking how they equate kundalini yoga to be Sikhism, and teach Sikhi in this way when yoga is not encouraged in the SGGS. The question was not approved and I got a message stating that it was 'off topic'.... go figure. Oh and I do call myself a 'Gori Sikh' but just to denote that I am caucasian and I adopted the faith of my own will. But I also always make sure people know I never ever had any contact with anything 3HO related or kundalini yoga related...
