I hope this post is not considered offensive. I am a US citizen descended from Rhinelanders, and Swabians. People generally think I look Italian. I have a skin, hair and eye coloration common in northern to central Italy. I have no prospect of getting anything but a US passport any time soon. I speak no languages but English, and Spanish. I am in my fifties, and in good general health. What are the chances I could travel on public transit to and from Gurudwaras in Pakistan, and the Punjab without trouble, assuming I could translate street signs, and bus schedules? What sort of clothing would not draw attention? I would want to go by public means, and by foot as much as possible. I would rather avoid taxis, rentals, or drivers. For many years I have wanted to make pilgrimages to the Golden temple, and other sites such as Kartapur Sahib. I also want to try to walk some of the paths traveled by Guru Nanak during his ministry, and to see the same land. I oppose the evil done by the US government in south Asia, and have worked against it politically. Ironically the hatred generated by it may keep me from walking where the Gurus walked. Should I see it as my tiny burden, compared to those who truly suffer, and risk my life to do it? Should I cower in the "homeland" along with the evil doers? .
