Khadur Sahib, a place sanctified with the sacred visit of eight Gurus Then, the True Guru, the Son of Pheru, came to dwell at Khadur (Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Page-967.) Blessed with the sacred touch of the eight Gurus, the historical town of Khadur Sahib is known in the whole world as holy town of Guru Angad Dev Ji (Second Great Master). Sri Guru Nanak dev Ji (First Great Master) visited this town five times to spread his message. This town is situated 35 Kms from Amritsar, 20 Kms from Kapurthala, 9 Kms from Goindwal Sahib, 18 Kms from Jandiala Guru, 22 Kms from Rayya and 27 Kms from Beas. Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji spent the thirteen years period of his Guruship in this town. We also find the following reference of Khadur Sahib in Holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib and in composition of Bhai Gurdas Ji: Left Kartarpur & came to Khadur Sahib to preach & enlighten the people (Bhai Gurdas Ji) Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji It was at Khadur Sahib that Guru Angad Dev Ji modified the Gurmukhi script and gave it the present form of thirty five letters. The first primer of Gurmukhi was also completed here by the Guru and the first school for the promotion and spread of Gurmukhi script was also established at this very place. To make the youth of that time fit and strong, the Guru established “Mal Akharas” (wrestling grounds) here and encouraged the wrestling tradition among Sikhs. It was at Khadur Sahib that the Guru motivated the people to stay away from social evils like drugs. Guru Angad Dev Ji used to preach “Gurbani” (poetic composition of Sikh Gurus) among people and his wife used to serve “Desi Ghee Kheer” (rice pudding cooked with purified butter) in the community kitchen at Khadur Sahib. The testimony of this fact is there in the hymns of Sri Guru Granth Sahib: ਨੇੜੈ ਦਿਸੈ ਮਾਤ ਲੋਕ ਤੁਧੁ ਸੁਝੈ ਦੂਰੁ ॥ ਫੇਰਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਫੇਰੁਆਣਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਖਾਡੂਰੁ ॥੫॥ ] Ang 967 Baba(Later third Great Master) Amar Das used to bring pitcher full of water for the sacred bath of Sri Guru Angad Dev from Beas river (Goindwal Sahib) at Khadur Sahib. After attaining the blessing of Guruship from Sri Guru angad Dev and obeying his commands, Guru Amar Das founded Goindwal Sahib and made it a centre for promoting Sikhism. Baba Budha and Bhai Gurdas also visited this town from time to time. Read more at this blog http://khadur-sahib.blogspot.com/2011/02/khadur-sahib-place-sanctified-with.html
