Got this email:- Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I admire and endorse the decision of World Sikh Council - America Region in upholding the Khalsa values by not bowing to the White House pressure and for declining the White House offer to attend the sacred ceremonies of the Installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib without bearing a kirpan, a mandatory article of faith for an initiated Sikh. If a Sikh goes to the White House to celebrate the 400 years of the installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib after getting stripped of his/her Kirpan, there is really nothing to celebrate. It is better to celebrate is where one can exercise his/her religion freely. People like Dr. Rajwant Singh have done immense damage to Sikhism by compromising the basic principles of Sikhism by misinforming the White House Authorities, misleading the Sikhs, and by adopting a revisionist attitude. A button or "medallion" can never be a Kirpan regardless of how you wear it. Dr. Rajwant Singh must apologize to the Sikh Sangat for misrepresenting and damaging Sikhism and excuse himself from this function. He must tell the White House and Sikh Sangat that it was a mistake on his part that he urged Sikhs to remove their Kirpan and instead wear a button. Hopefully, it will repair some of the damage that he has done to Sikhism. I urge general Sikh Sangat to register their protest with the White House in a calm and civilized manner and tell them that it is a violation of their religious rights to force them to remove their kirpan while celebrating this occasion at the White House. Has the White House ever asked a Christian or Jew to remove his cross or skull cap while entering the White House? If enough of us protest, they will get the message. They will also understand the real Sikh principles. Gur Fateh Dr. Tarlochan Singh (Former Secretary General, World Sikh Council - America Region) What do you think about it? Should we boycott or not?? Tejwant
