A very good and informative piece by Dr Gurnam Singh from Sikh Channel. The UK has a huge problem with these youth from taksaals and jathas. These youth have it ingrained in them that amritdhari are in a league of their own. They don't believe that a non-amritdhari that may be living and conducting mostly to gurmat is actually worthy. - Only an amritdhari can be gurmat for what they see. Thereofore, the gap between amritdhari and non-amritdharis is huge. If you are mona and you want to participate in a camp where they are majorty. then FORGET IT!!! It's the elders that egg on these super veggie youths, and these same elders seem to hide in the background when issues surface or are exposed. I was born and lived in UK for over 35 years and I know how these guys can put off any newbies that may be trying to find the path. They honestly believe that you can ONLY begin by taking amrit and then the 5 pyarey give you naam. Once you have this then you CAN start being gurmat, otherwise you are never going to be on the sikhi path. These are not all AKJ or damdami's. but there are also other very similar jathas. What really used to get me was that they would virtually worship some bhai sahib or sant of their jatha and whatever theis high being says is the 'WORD'. -Infact their bhai saab's 'word' is above and can overide the word of the Granth!!!! Infact these guys put me off so much that I began to get my inspiration from white american gora sikhs like 3HO. No matter what others say of these gora types, I found them most welcoming and much more gurmat than most other youths. For me they were the true inspiration in terms of sangat. The sad thing is that I don't have an answer on how these issues can be resolved. When you try and inform or teach these youth about a certain issue for eg. the controversial issues of DG, then they just won't listen. They REALLY believe in hemkunt and guru's previous life...etc... I can't understand why they don't question why didn't any other guru mention their previous life then ? It's sad, that is all I can say, And they are not doing sikhism any favours by excluding non-amritdharis from all things sikhi.
