Dera head killed for desecration of Guru Granth Sahib – 3 Singhs surrender Written by editor Ganganagar, Rajasthan, June 11 (YP Bureau) A Controversial Dera head, who had been in the news for desecrating Shri Guru Granth Sahib earlier this year, was Monday killed in Peelibanga (Rajasthan) by three Singhs with sharp-edged weapons. After the act, all three walked to a police station and confessed having killed the Dera head. The three Singhs have been identified as Naginder Singh of Sehna in Punjab, Gursewak Singh of Dhoolkot in Punjab and Nirmal Singh of Kharlia in Rajasthan. The dead Dera head has been identified as Suraj Muni, originally from Haryana, who had established his Dera in Ward No. 16 at Peelibanga in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan about thirty years ago. The incident happened Monday at about 11 in the morning when three people forced their entry in the Dera of Suraj Muni, attacked him with sharp-edged weapons and went to the police station after making it sure that the Muni was dead. Police found Muni’s body in a pool of blood with most of the injuries on his neck. His body was shifted to Hospital for autopsy. Forensic experts were called in. Suraj Muni (60) was allegedly responsible for the desecration of various Saroops of Guru Granth Sahib ji. The incident which happened in February, this year, had shocked Sikhs living all over the world and protests were held against the Muni at a number of places in India and abroad. The Saroops of Guru Sahib were found from a sack floating in a canal on Malout-Dabwali Road while two Saroops wer found stacked on the floor. The ‘Angs’ of Guru Granth Sahib ji were torn apart and ripped before throwing the Saroops away in the canal. Suraj Muni and some of his associates were booked and arrested for the desecration of Shri Guru Granth Sahib and for playing with sentiments of the Sikh community. He had reportedly confessed his crime but was released on bail just 10 days ago. The situation is said to be tense in Peelibanga and the adjoining areas in Ganganagar. An official at Ganga Nagar confided that the administration was also fed up with the working style of the Dera and the Dera Head but could not dare to take any action to stop the illegal activities of the Dera Chief, because of the large following he had. ‘The Dera was constructed illegally over Government land and the Dera Chief had acted in ways that were against the law’, he said. Fearing violence against the Sikh Community, a large contingent of Police are camping in the village as Sikhs in large numbers were said to be present in the Police Station, as reports last came in.
