Sukhbir's over-ambitious request to Pak: Hand over gurdwaras to SGPC Friday, November, 09 2012 - 13:27 LAHORE: Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Badal during his visit to Pakistan requested the authorities to hand over the management and control of gurdwaras located in Pakistan to Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee (SGPC). SGPC is the apex body which controls the management and functioning of gurdwaras, especially in Punjab. Sukhbir Badal while requesting the Chief Minister of West Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif said the Sikh community was inherently attached to the gurdwaras in Pakistan. He also appealed Sharif to discuss the issue with the Pakistan government. The Deputy Chief Minister also pressed the need of an easy visa regime for the pilgrims, along with opening of visa offices in Lahore and Amritsar for the convenience of traders, industrialists and pilgrims. Sukhbir also sought a plan for Sikh religious tourism circuit so that a Sikh pilgrim could visit all the gurdwaras in a single visit, be in Pakistan or India. He said the tourism departments of both West and East Punjab could chalk out the circuit plan. Meanwhile, Sharif assured that he would discuss all the issues raised by Sukhbir with the Pakistan government.
