It sounds like this is just a job you're going to have to do yourself Akashaji. When people misunderstand you, widen their knowledge and give them a good explanation of what you believe and give them a lot of chances to ask questions. I noticed that when people tell others about their beliefs they give the other person very few chances to input an opinion or question, so just keep that in mind. Don't barrage people with information. Above all it shouldn't matter to you what other people think, but I'm sure if you explain your beliefs in a calm and non-frustrated way, people will be really happy for you and they'll be really happy to hear about Sikhi. Whenever I tell people about Sikhi they find it hard to believe at first that there's this amazing beautiful interesting religion that they never heard of. On the issue of Sheikh vs. Sikh: a Sheikh in Islam is a person of knowledge, one who dedicated their life to studying Islam so they can be a source of answers to their community. A Sheikh and Imam can be very similar and often, a Sheikh is also an Imam. (Imam is one who leads the congregation in prayer). If you want to explain the difference between Sikh and Sheikh, then it's very easy; a Sikh (pronounced like "seek" or sometimes "sick") is a person who follows the religion Sikhism. Sheikh (pronounced "shake", not "sheek" - this is a good distinction) is a Muslim scholar. Just tell them when they ask about it, or if it becomes apparent that they are confused. The majority of people just don't care about knowing the difference and there isn't anything you can do about that as much as you want to. Some people just don't want to learn about other religions, they just have no interest. So all you can do is be a welcoming and friendly person so that people who have questions will see you as someone they can chat to. Remember to listen as much as you talk. And congratulations with your military work! :mundakhalsaflag:
