Tejwant ji, If i could 'like' your post 5 times, I would. It is very refreshing to hear anyone speak to these concerns on a practical level, because it is so rare. One of my theories is that, as a planet, we are suffering slow carbon-monoxide poisoning. I remember once, as a child, seeing a news story in which a father had killed his family and himself by feeding a hose from his car's exhaust pipe into the rear of his car and then driving off somewhere to die. It blew my mind because I kept asking: "didn't thay feel themselves getting sleepy? Couldn't they tell something was wrong?!" So now we find ourselves on a populous planet, continuously criss-crossed by millions upon millions of cars, skies choked with unbroken airplane traffic, and all of these perpetually pumping out carbon-monoxide. Perhaps this begins to explain how it is possible to witness the actual death of our dear Mother Earth, being piecemeal chewed apart, poisoned and converted into crap, the imminent extinction of absolutely irreplaceable tigers, gorillas, orangutangs, and countless other species; the devastating deforestation of our vital sacred trees, choking pollution of all sacred waterways up to and including the grand, mystical oceans...and everyone is largely indifferent, or vaguely troubled but uninvolved. Carbon monoxide poisoning; we must be in a dull-witted daze, while we discuss football, Beyonce, jobs and economics, I-pads and smart phones, taxation and LaBron James... All the while, this blessed earth that Har Har entrusted us with is being stripped, choked and plundered and receding irretrievably into the unreachable past. When I think of India, I feel for the poor trees. A burgeoning population of 1 billion-plus people, each of which eats cooked food several times a day -that requires a lot of wood!- and when they die, most all of them expect to be burned. Oh, the poor trees are suffering. By the way, the fuel required to incinerate a body in a furnace is very high; it is not the answer either, thinking from a standpoint of sustainability. So, my brother. I beg you to be among the light-bringers, and kindle some consciousness among those you can touch and I promise to do the same. Another vignette: in much of Africa, where there is often less infra-structure than rural India, and fully as much environmental ignorance, everything purchased at marketplace or store, is sold in small plastic bags. Needless to say, the landscape, roadsides and waterways of Africa are brimming with plastic waste. One of the governments of Africa, in a rare glimmer of consciousness, outlawed the use of these thin plastic bags recently. The result? Outrage! "Now what are we supposed to defecate into?" Lacking a system of bathrooms, people were in the habit of pooping into plastic bags and tossing them to the roadside! If you understand anything about ecology, you realize waste needs to be returned to the soil to be assimilated. The very last thing you'd want to do is seal it in plastic to fester in the sun. But in these ignorant and reprobate times we are living in we are so far removed from a relationship with our Mother/Father Waheguru...
