Thank you SPNadmin and Dr. Sodhi for supplying what is probably the most crucial writing to this site. Time will bear out the fact that our consciousness to our ecology, and more importantly, our recognition of the Sacred in our natural surroundings, will be the single most vital issue of our times. It is wonderful to hear the appeal bound to the worldview of Sikhi, and I thank you for that. In actual fact, of course, every belief system is subordinate to the religion of Life. When we are truly thirsty, all we need is pure water from the Creator of heaven and earth. At that point, anything we thought we believed, all creeds, all preferences, all prejudices, all doctrines, all rites, all politics, philosophies,... everything will go on the back-burner, until we can get water. If we are choking, the only thing that matters is getting a breath of air. It is this religion, the one of living in a mindset and lifestyle of constant gratitude and awe to Waheguru, the Life-giver, that is the true religion. Any faith system that does not place the cherishing of water and air and this wonderous Creation uppermost, is a fallen religion. By the same token, any religion that allows or is indifferent to environmental degradation and destruction, is a fraud. Too often, I've seen churches in which people are singing and hollering about salvation, while all around them pollution and destruction increase, unchallenged and unmentioned. The challenge then is to translate the fine words of the holiness of the environment into hard choices in real life. It is well and good to read these things but all too common in human nature to excuse or justify the predations of our species. I've observed much in my life and unfortunately I see little to give hope in our future. There is simply an out-of-control spirit prevailing over humans; and no evidence of us getting a grip before it's all too late. But each of us has to stand before the Judge and give an account of our conduct during this sojourn, so it is most important that in our own lives, as believers, we keep the Har-consciousness ever before our eyes. And it is because of this I am very thankful for writings such as this that try to restore the urgency of being always at peace with Waheguru and His/Her blessed Creation.
