Happy Vaisakhi to all!! It was hard to pick something to discuss this week as Vaisakhi is all about commitment to the ShabadGuru and theforefore the entire Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is relevant! Then I started thinking about commitment and what its all really for. Here is a passage from Ang 959 for discussion. Literal translation underneath, my interpretation in green. Jo Rathae Dheedhaar Saeee Sach Haak || Those who are imbued with the Lord's Vision, speak the Truth. Those who are coloured by the vision of goodness, understand the truth about Akaal. Jinee Jaathaa Khasam Kio Labhai Thinaa Khaak || How can I obtain the dust of those who realize their Lord and Master? We must make the most effort we can to learn from those who have felt the connection with their husband Akaal. Man Mailaa Vaekaar Hovai Sang Paak || The mind, stained by corruption, becomes pure by associating with them. The mind that is surrounded by corruption and takes on board corruption in its thinking, can be purified by associating with those who have a connection and understand the Guru’s teachings. Dhisai Sachaa Mehal Khulai Bharam Thaak || One sees the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, when the door of doubt is opened. With the blessing of their company, the door to Waheguru becomes visible, and the closed door to the soul (due to doubt and misunderstanding) becomes opened. Jisehi Dhikhaalae Mehal This N Milai Dhhaak || That one, unto whom the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is revealed, is never pushed or shoved. This is Waheguru’s own blessing, those who see the way and learn the residence of Akaal (within themselves) are not pushed around or pushed out of the home. Man Than Hoe Nihaal Bindhak Nadhar Jhaak || My mind and body are enraptured, when the Lord blesses me, even for an instant, with His Glance of Grace. The life blood of Satguru’s blessings fills the body completely, and the mind & body grow (blossom). No Nidhh Naam Nidhhaan Gur Kai Sabadh Laag || The nine treasures, and the treasure of the Naam are obtained by commitment to the Word of the Guru's Shabad. By joining/committing to the Guru’s shabad (words), the nine treasures from Parmatma are obtained. Thisai Milai Santh Khaak Masathak Jisai Bhaag ||5|| He alone is blessed with the dust of the feet of the Saints, upon whose forehead such pre-ordained desiny is inscribed. ||5|| On whoever’s head good fortune is awakeand, only they receive the blessings from the True Guru. Points for discussion: 1) What does Guru's blessing or Waheguru's blessing actually mean? I have been pondering on this for some time and a person doling out blessings does not make sense. Parmatma is present in each and every one of us, yet not all make the effort to connect and overcome duality. It is this individual effort that is a blessing. So therefore Guru's blessing is obtained when one makes an effort to obtain it. 2) What are the 9 treasures? 3) This is all about commitment to the ShabadGuru, the effort and sangat required. Is that commitment and hardwork any less relevant today? Is Vaisakhi not about a physical manifestation of these things?
