[QUOTE="Siri Kamala, post: 139707, member: 13802"] wth Ji ~ Umm... yeah. It's forbidden for Catholics too, but that doesn't seem to have stopped Catholic people (nay, even some priests and nuns!) from having pre-marital sex. So I guess the question is... is it more useful to this person for us to take the stigmatizing, finger-wagging, "Thou Shalt Not," judging-him-as-a-sinner approach? Or to take a more practical, nonjudgmental Dr. Ruth approach that simply addresses the reality of what it is like to be a teenage boy struggling with these issues. I guess my thought is that, at last check, human nature balks at rules that seem to exist for their own sake rather than to serve a practical purpose of some sort. Personally I think we give the sex act waaay too much emphasis and power when we start creating all kinds of rules and restrictions around it. It's like the chocolate truffle that the dieter is not allowed to eat -- but that other people eat all the time. Pretty soon it becomes all the dieter can think about. Does that make them a bad person? No. It just means they're all too human. Take away all the arbitrary, rule-based, stigmatizing, punitive thinking around sex and it tends to put sex in a more proper perspective -- it is an appetite, much like what we have for food, and it is tied into our emotional needs as well. Honor that, and encourage people to embrace that more mature approach to marital sexual relations (rather than shaming them for wanting it before marriage), and people will likely be more inclined to listen than if they're being shamed for what is a natural human desire.
