This was stated by Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema secretary and Chief Spokesman of the Shiromani Akali Dal.</p><p></p><p></p><p> In a statement released here from the party head office on Tueswday, Dr. Cheema said that Nanakshahi calendar is a calendar of the whole sikh panth which was not accepted by takht Sri Patna Sahib and Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib Nanded when it was implemented almost some years ago and Sant Samaj too had some reservations about it. Amendments now made by the SGPC, which the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has accepted and directed to implement from Chait month, are a serious attempt aimed to remove the objections of both the takht sahibs and of Sant Samaj. Now, after the assent of Jathedar Sahiban of five takht sahibs and approval of the amendments by the Gurmat Sidhant Pracharak Sant Samaj, it is high time for all of us to work unitedly for the betterment of sikh panth.</p><p></p><p></p><p>Dr. Cheema, who is also advisor to Chief Minister Punjab, said that in the last two decades, Sikhs have suffered a lot and have witness events which are difficult to forget. He said that the time has come for all the panthic leaders to work for giving a crushing defeat to those elements in Punjab, in country and abroad, who were working to harm the community on the directions of those forces which attacked Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Sri Darbar Sahib, were actively involved in sikh carnage and are now active to harm the interests of the sikh community to fulfill their nefarious designs.</p><p></p><p></p><p>He said that Nanakshahi calendar is a calendar of Sikh community which has full right to amend and update it according to the changing need of the time and no interference of the external forces would be tolerated in this matter. He said that there is no doubt that new amendments made would remove all misunderstandings of the past in the sikh panth.It is high time for all of us to jointly celebrate all out historic days according to the Nanakshahi calendar, he added.</p><p></p><p></p><p>He appealed to the community members to come forward and accept and implement Nanakshahi calendar from Chaiter month according to the directives of the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.</p></blockquote><p></p>
