[QUOTE="DS777, post: 23999, member: 2471"] If you want to gain wisdom from an Abrahamic faith, I would suggest picking up a copy of the Pentateuch (Old Testament) and browsing through some of the beautiful proverbs and psalms. From an Islamic perspective, the Qur'an does not offer up any divine wisdom or profound insight into life. All the Qur'an does is half-heartedly rehash popular Biblical stories, says the Torah and Gospel have been corrupted, Jesus is not God, and tells you how to distribute money after your death, among other more frivelous items. The only wisdom I have ever found in Islam is from a handful of hadiths, however, you have to look hard for it even there. I am relatively new to Sikhism, but I view it to be a purer monotheism than Islam. Let me recount a story that I read recently, please correct me if I am mistaken as to the details: Guru Nanak was in Mecca spreading his message and decided to take a nap. One of the religious authorities came up to him and chastised him for sleeping with his feet in the direction of the Kaba'a. Guru Nanak replied, "I am sorry dear sir, I am too tired to move my legs, please, can you move them to where God is not?" Muslim's pride themselves on the concepts of Al-Tawhid, or the absolute oneness of God, and view themselves as practicing pure "Abrahamic" monotheism. However, I can unequivocally say after studying Sikhism for just a few days, that the Sikhs have a richer, more fulfilling, and spiritually rewarding monotheism than the fear-mongering monotheistic concept of the Islamic religion.
