Punjab Recognises Gatka As A Sports

The Education Department of Punjab has also incorporated the Gatka game into the Punjab school and universities sports calendar on the persistent appeals of PGA. We are passionately desiring from the Punjab as well as Central Governments to award due gradations of Gatka game certificates at par with the certificates of other games for which a case has also been filed before the Punjab State Sports Council and Sports Department Punjab.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">With the inclusion of Gatka into the general games, it had revolutionized the martial art, which was earlier heading towards its distinction, and put it in the Northward trajectory to arose to the lost magnificence. Prominent personalities have been included into the SMART Board to verify and accept the research projects. In this regard letters have been sent to all the Vice Chancellors of Universities of Punjab State.</span></span></p><p> </p><p><strong><span style="color: black"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Gatka Training Centers in each district:</span></span></strong></p><p><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'"><span style="color: black">In order to train the budding Gatkebaaz under the new rules constituted by the Gatka Federation of India, the PGA has planned to establish Gatka Training Centers (GTCs) in each district under the District Associations/units. In such GTCs certified trained Gatka coaches would be deputed for training. The core purpose of the PGA is to manage, promote, standardize and popularise the game of Gatka and other martial arts on amateur basis. It</span> is also meant to enable youth to stay fit n' fine by keeping them away from drug abuse and other intoxicants to lead a disciplined life so that rich heritage of Punjab could be projected at global arena.</span></p><p> </p><p><strong><span style="color: black"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">State level Refresher courses for Gatkebaaz:</span></span></strong></p><p><span style="color: black"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Punjab Gatka Association (PGA) had organised a special three days refresher course-cum-seminar at Shaheed Kanshi Ram College of Physical Education Bhagomajra near Kharar (SAS Nagar) from 17th July to 19th July 2009 for preparation of certified Gatka officials (men & women) like Referees, Judges and Technical Advisors to conduct the upcoming competitions to be organised by the Association.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: black"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">A special standing committee on coaching and training had been constituted for such refresher /training courses/camps to be conducted by the Association. The standing committee, under the chairmanship of Mr. H.S Grewal General Secretary PGA and co-chairman Mr. Avtar Singh, Gatka Instructor, Punjabi University Patiala would devise and materialize the courses/camps and contents for seminars on Gatka to hone the skills of Gatkabaaz.
