The Badal family took her body by road to the village directly from PGI, where she was declared dead at around 2 pm. </span></p><p><span style="color: Navy"></span></p><p><span style="color: Navy">As the news spread, cabinet ministers, top bureaucrats and police officers besides several senior politicians rushed to PGI to offer their condolences to the CM, his son and deputy CM Sukhbir Badal, Sukhbir's MP wife, Harsimrat Badal, son in law and Punjab food minister Adaish Pratap Singh Kairon and Badal's daughter Preneet Kaur, who were with Surinder Badal during her last moments. Both Badal and Sukhbir has been camping at PGI for the last 12 days ever since her condition deteriorated, following complications. </span></p><p><span style="color: Navy"></span></p><p><span style="color: Navy">Jathedar of Takht Keshgarh Sahib, Anandpur, Bhai Tirlochan Singh, offered prayers before her body was carried out of the ICU ward to the ambulance on a stretcher. </span></p><p><span style="color: Navy"></span></p><p><span style="color: Navy">Surinder Badal's cancer of small intestines was detected nearly a year ago and she was taken to USA thrice, for treatment in a New York hospital. She was brought to PGI on May 12 after acute complications did not allow her to travel to USA. `The doctors told the family last night that there was no hope left now,'' said family sources.
