July 6, 2011 Punjab CM's shocker: Is this 'living with the masses'? 9 Jul 2011, 1126 hrs IST, AGENCIES In yet another shocker, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal misuses government machinery by converting a classroom into a bathroom. The chief minister yesterday set out on a journey to the rural areas of the state first stoppedover at the Alamwala village in Muktsar constituency. Badal chose the government senior secondary school in the village to hold a public meeting. People from eight villages under the Lambi and Malaut assembly constituencies visited the school at Alamwala to meet Badal. However, not everyone was pleased with the CM's choice of venue. The chief minister's visit to the school completely disrupted the classes, thereby hampering the school schedule. However, what is more shocking is that one of the classrooms was converted into an air-conditioned bedroom while another was turned into a makeshift toilet. Not just this, but the students of the school were made to serve snacks and tea to the CM's entourage. The villagers, who saw this happening, were outraged at the blatant transgression. Officials at public relations department confirmed that the chief minister went to the senior secondary school at Alamwala. However, they refused to comment on the arrangements made for Badal. In the evening, Badal decided to spend the night at a school at Chapianwali village - about 25 km from his home at Lambi. Here too, a classroom was converted into a makeshift bedroom. Parkash Singh Badal on Friday said that he would stay at night in villages to feel the pulse of people there so that he could address their problems in a better way. He said his government is committed to give a new face lift to villages by ensuring all round development. "The Sangat Darshan programme is a healthy platform to achieve this objective by redressing the grievances of the people on the spot, thereby bridging the communication gap between masses and administration," he had said. Badal, in a supposed attempt to live with the masses, is camping at schools where the entire machinery is misused. TIMES NOW asks, is this 'living with the masses'?
