Just some background. Sikh24 is one of about 5 so-called news venues on line that actually part of a network run by panthic.org They are essentially posting about one of their search and destroy missions. By so doing they make themselves the topic of news along with a particular target. Not a journalistic attitude. So don't consider this a news story. I never delete when someone posts from Sikh24 because our own TOS permits a variety of views. But this is not news. It is opinion and slander. Let's take this apart. This past weekend, Prof Darshan Singh Ji Khalsa, ex-jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib OK a fact. However it should be known he resigned from his post. who has recently turned to slamming gurbani - An opinion and his missionary supporters had a program at Hayward Gurdwara Sahib A fact a hotbed of missionary activity. An opinion - And what does a hotbed mean? Like previous years, the Ragi was not given permission to speak at any other Gurdwara in the Bay Area, including Fremont and San Jose. Can this be verified? Ragi’s program in Hayward attracted a handful of people Not fact not opinion but meaningless - How much is a handful? This statement seems taken out of context and is familiar strategy. Exactly what happened just before Akal Takht called the professor to its headquarters before the "excommunication" proceedings, based on a doctored video tape. The person who doctored the tape has since admitted to that. The pasted section from the sundesh of Akal Takht is a fact; however it is about 3 years old now. The real story is that so many gurdwaras ignore it. The fact that it takes up more space in the article than the reporting of facts tells me that article is a poster for a point of view, not a report. The tone is gossipy and juvenile in its outlook. Beyond that, the use of terms like "hotbed of missionary activity" or "returned to slamming gurbani" are designed to elicit an OMG kind of response from the reader, rather than a rational one. Notice, I have p{censored}d out only 2 sentences out of the total, and they are packed with these devices. Did anyone learn anything not already plastered on the net since 2008, other than the writer really has a low opinion of the Professor? So this is about the writer and his views, not a real news story. Thanks. Don't feel you have defend the truth or any individual named in the story. Nothing is new about the way this particular event has been reported. Sangats who invite the professor know it is coming ahead of time. It is the innocent reader who often doesn't have the running background to interpret the print.
