BARACK OBAMA, has been referred to as a ‘monkey’ by an Australian junior official of a political party. This despicable comment was posted on Twitter as talks of his expulsion sparked off.
The offender, Nick Sowden, belongs to Australia’s Queensland Young Liberal National Party.
A media account asserts that while President of America, Obama was being interviewed by Kerry O Brien of ABC, a media organization, Sowden posted messages on Twitter.
The excerpts of those tweets look like this, “I'm not sure why they paid Kerry to fly to America, if they wanted an interview with a monkey; surely a Ferry to Taronga would have sufficed.” The reference more than evidently was made to Obama.
Party senior members are reportedly upset. The president of the QYLNA Rod Schneider said that the tweets represented the views of an individual and not that of the party. He said, Sowden does not speak for the party and his being sacked is definitely on the cards. “He has a very very short shelf life,” Rod was quoted as saying.
Disciplinary action against Sowden is most likely to be taken. Australia is a free country and all forms of comments can be expressed by any person but from a person belonging to a party justification of such comments is expected.
While the world awaits action against Sowden Twitter may be the medium of first report here too. The social networking site looks powerful enough to spark off controversies one after another. India is no stranger to these – the Tharoor and Modi spat became uglier and played out entirely on the Twitter pages before becoming an all out war. SRK’s tweets on KKR’s performance make sport headlines, and Sania and Shoiab marriage matter first broke out in Twitter too. Tweet away to news and storms!
