Why would the Gurus and Sants do that? Were they stressing the importance of being uneducated, or having a mind like a blank slate? No. They were instead criticizing some of those learned people who were confused -- and missed the point of serious religious study. These pandits dominated and lorded over others with their learning and preened themselves with pride. For all their clever arguments they could not get even close to the path of bhagati and the journey of the soul. These pandits "wearied" themselves and everyone else.
