I hope he doesn't come across as bumblingly foolish as did PM Stephan Harper of Canada. But then Stephan Harper is an robotic idiot and Barack Obama is an intelligent and classy man married to an intelligent and classy woman. I look forward to seeing and reading coverage of this visit. It still raises questions in my mind. Actually, some of these concerns would apply to any Christian visiting any gurudwara. Should he matha tek to SGGS ji when according to Christian theology our Guru ji is, at best, a pagan scripture and at worst, I'm not going to say? Should he, as a Christian, accept prasad? I bring this up because in the USA it is an unwritten but absolute qualification that the President be a practicing, devout Christian. There are some groups in the country that insist that Obama is a closet Muslim and so he must guard his Christian credentials very closely. Christianity teaches that all other religions are false, so I wonder how far he can go in observing what we consider common courtesy. Visiting the langar is another problem. We condemn Harper for refusing langar, but I wonder about Obama's security concern. Will everybody else be run out so he and his entourage can be accommodated? I would like to think that the SPGC know what they're doing and will do a good job, but I have no such confidence in them. Also, I sincerely pray that by then the sacred sarovar will be cleaned so there are no sacred dead fish floating therein with the resultant stench. Of course, November is usually much cooler than summer, but dead fish and polluted water still stink. Now that I think about it, I wonder if this visit is really such a good idea...
