[QUOTE="Loveisthereason, post: 219462, member: 22190"] This is a generational problem. I believe we are all the same, we have the same triggers in life. I grew up in a generation which didn't care what others thought about me. This generation has been made to care about what others think and so they amend how they are seen. Social media is to thank for this but this has a time limit to it. In a previous post I had written that the Guru created the Darbar Sahib as a place where Sikhs could gather. Human interests collect, we already see social media being used by identities, then there is the subscriber button. No more popularity contest for human lifestyle but for human interests. What's also important to note is that the gap between generations is shrinking fast. How many of us just click like on something because we're being nice? Alot of us don't even examine the details of a post we subconsciously think "ah so and so is having a meal at a fancy restaurant with other people" let's give them a like so they know I care. But do you really care? No your just being nice. Very interesting article about envy though it highlights what some of us on social media worry about other people, that they are consumed. There is little or nothing you can do people have to make their own journey to realisation. This is also the case with all online activity. There was a lot of noise recently that you have to be careful about what you put on social media sites because employers will see this and it may affect your employment. This is also another thing which will be revisited. Online activity is a protected class, what someone does online as long as it is not illegal should in no way prejudice your offline activity. Why? Because we have a right to freedom of speech, privacy, assembly and so on. We also have the right to being human and chop and change our beliefs, opinions etc. The Internet allows for this expression and therefore creates a new category against discrimination, online activity should be one of those things in the list of categories against which employers and others don't discriminate against like race, gender sexuality etc. It will happen watch and see.
