It is 3364 Sq. Km. in area. It is surrounded by Districts Jalandhar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Kapurthala in the Southwest, District Gurdaspur in the Northwest, District Ludhiana in the South, District Rupnagar in the Southeast and Districts Kangra and Una of Himachal Pradesh State in the Northeast. The City of Hoshiarpur is the headquarter of this District.</p><p></p><p>This District is situated in the foothills of Shivalik Ranges of Himalaya and so it has many Seasonal rivulets which bring floods during heavy rains. Legend about this place is that Guru Nanak Dev ji met Bharatri Hari the king of Ujjain and follower of Nath yogis at this place. Bharthari was betrothed to the princes of Junagarh and he was required at Junagarh with in a day to marry her or she would die. Exhausting all other options, the desperate ruler is believed to have prayed Guru Nanak to help which he did and was able to go and return after marriage with in two days.(2) Gurdwara Peer bala sahib commemorates Guru Nanak's visit to the place .
