All were Educated very highly, writers, poets, kathwachaks, and grishthees. For over half a century they served the Gurdwaras as Granthis and Khalsa Schools as Punjabi Teachers..producing dozens of Shudh Akhand pathees, punjabi literates, and more importantly GYANIS of the Punajb University. Gyani Inder Singh Gill was the pioneer in thsi regard - he got the Punjab University permission to hold Off campus Exams in Kuala Lumpur for Budhimania nd Gyani ( I got my Gyani degree this way without stepping foot in Chandigarh PU campus in the early 1970s.)</p><p>Sadly as the left this world one by one...Gyani mohinder Singh Missionary of Tanjong Malim juts passed away last year after a long illness...the replacements were the "temporary visa holders" imported from Punjab...mostly from the DERAS and related village Gurdwaras..most here just to pass the time until they could get to greener pastures with their Green cards...and many even absconded without telling their Gurdwaras thus elaving them in the lurch and which actions led to a tightening of Visa regulations for subsequent granthis. Thoise day there were no visiting Ragi jathas like today..so the Resident Granthi was a one in all..and those Gyanis were the real One In Alls..ragis, kathwachaks, punjabi teachers, gurbani paath arth bodh teachers, tabla players, accountants, sewadaars...serving with dedication the community in which they lived and raised their children. Recently a book launched by the Perak Royal Family written by Tan Sri Datuk Darshan Singh Gill is about his family and sikh success..his late father Gyani Gurdial Singh was also a Granthi of this generation. The SGPC used to send Visitign kathwachaks or Dhadee jathas for a three year contract..fro three years they would go aroudn the country doing parchaar. ALL Gurdawras without exception followed the SRM of the SGPC. There were no splinter maryadas and no derawaadee parchaar. </p><p>The First and only "Sant" to ever visit Malaya was Sant fateh Singh President Akali Dal who came on a political visit tour cum fund collection tour. Punjabi Schools ran very successfully in over 11 locations - all Govt Funded via teacher salaries, and the biggest Khalsa Punjabi School in Kuala Lumpur had over 700 students at its peak in the 1970s. NOW ALL such Schools are CLOSED due to lack of students...ad hoc part time classes are held all over the country by concerned individuals and a few are run by organsiations worried about Mother tongue education...but nothing like those glory days of Punjabi Education...Part time education only rpoduces "part time" education..thus a serious lack of Local Akhand Pathees, Gurbani kathawachaks etc.Almost NIL - not even the part time punjabi classes can remedy this ) Even IF some students do "graduate" from paath Classes they LACK the confidence to do Akhand Paath in Public...</p><p></p><p>A complete history book could be written on this period in malaysian Sikh history...:welcome::welcome:</p></blockquote><p></p>
