The first thing is that the discussion about a Punjabi topic is being held in English. Anyway, in my opinion it's a foolish idea to write Punjabi in Devnagri. If some people write it in Devnagri for their convenience, it doesn't mean it should be declared an official script. If so, Roman script would be the official one many years ago because almost everybody, even native Punjabis, use to write Punjabi in Roman (no the internet and mobile) more than they write it in Gurmukhi or Shahmukhi daily. There are only 2 ISO registered versions of Punjabi bcz of the two scripts. I don't want more divisions, it already had much. Even some people entirely decline them to be one language. But the fact is that the Punjabi in Pak is more pure than ours as ours has been mixed with lots of Sanskrit and Hindi words. And the worst thing is that the writers etc. not consider their writings to be effective until they use tons of "HEAVY" Sanskrit words. And the worst of the worst thing is that, they do so neglecting Punjabi ones. That's, I think, is leading people to such "kattarpuna" and misleading Hindus as well as other Punajbis. That makes some half-educated people feel that Hindi and Punjabi are same languages. that further leads them to support writing "it" using another script that is Devnagri.
