I think to put it mildly, chickens are coming home to roost. We used to donate clothes to charities ourselves. To our astonishment we learnt that the charities had no real hand in taking and directly distributing the clothes to the needy. To add insult to injury we also learnt that they were selling these by the pound/kilo to international buyers who would ship these, say to Africa. Upon arrival these clothes were properly sorted and sold many times over the total cost of acquisition from the charities including shipping. We also had scandals here with some fat cats at charities were identified as driving the latest vehicles and sporty cars paid for and raised through such endeavors. The sweet taste of giving to charity suddenly became bitter for us. Now as much as possible, we get the clothes to needy people in the area in India we know of and distribute ourselves or our relatives. We feel better for it. Sat Sri Akal.
