The party which has been taking all possible political initiatives is trying to invoke anti-Congress card as an antidote against Manpreet's popularity.</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">The appointment of Captain Amarinder Singh as President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee has come as double blow for the Akalis.</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">The panic in the party is imminent from the fact that a special meeting of the Core Committee on political Affairs was convened at Chandigarh on Thursday. This is the second meeting of core committee summoned during last one month to analyse the impact of Manpreet Badal's exit and chalk out a strategy to defuse the situation. The core committee howerver seems wanting for poliitical remedy to present crisis. The Core Committee has decided to shift the onus on the Congress led UPA government describing it mother of all ills and trying to confuse the people of Punjab on so called debt waiver offer. </span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">The SAD would go to masses exposing Congress involvement in scams like commongwalth games, adarsh Society and Spectrum 2 and linking Congress with Manpreet Badal.</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">Chief Minister and Chief Patron of the SAD Parkash Singh Badal learnt to have conveyed his displeasure over the manner in which party is handling the issue. Badal who remained present in the core committee meeting has asked the party leaders to fan out in the field and eastablish contact with the cadres. The core committee has also discussed the 'Jago Punjab Yatra' to be undertaken by Manpreet Badal from November 24. Badal had yesterday announced to re-start 'Sangat Darshan' programme from November 19 to narrow down the side wedge between government and general public. </span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">Badal has also started an exercise to bring home dissidents following some of senior leaders of party started joining hands with Manpreet Badal. Gurpreet Singh Bhatti President of district unit of Youth Akali Dal has sided with Manpreet Badal beside two MLAs Manjinder Singh Kang and Jagbir Singh Brar already supporting Manpreet. Some of senior Akali leaders from Mukatsar have also attended Manpreet's Amritsar show. </span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">It was in this context that Badal yesterday visited the house of Kiranbir Singh Kang foremr President of Youth Akali Dal who was virtually kicked out from the party by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and Youth Akali Dal Patron Bikram Singh Majithia. He was not allowed to function by Majithia and not heard by Sukhbir. Disappointed at treatment meted out to him, he had resigned with the words, "Akali Dal now do not need sincere and educated people in the party".</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">After about a year, Badal went to the house of Kiranbir Singh Kang who however is still not happy with the party. He reportedly said that he would remain loyal to party but would not accept any office untill party workers are given due respect.</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">The reasons of SAD defeat in 2002 assembly elections due to opposition by humiliated Gurcharan Singh Tohra are also relevant in the case of Manpreet Badal case. The SAD couldn't anticipate that large number of people particularly the youth would join the ranks of Manpreet Badal. The propaganda by official machinery through newspapers and TV channels that Manpreet Badal's show at Amritsar was a total flop is probing counter productive. The party has been forced to go to public to regain its lost faith. </span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">The immediate reaction by SAD to the political agenda by Manpreet Badal had made the things worst for the party. SAD had stated that the political agenda of reiteration of agenda adopted by SAD in its party manifesto. The obvious question in the mind of public was that then why this agenda was not implemented in the last four years of governance. The core points of agenda were end to corruption and VIP culture in state, not to allow liquor vends in the periphery of villages, raise tax collection, not to allow two blood relations in one cabinet, create education facilities at primary level, improve primary health services and provide employment to 40 lakh unemployed youth. </span></p><p> </p><p><span style="color: #002060">Manpreet Badal has described 'a second freedom movement' his war against present government. The real impact of his agenda would be seen during 'Jago Punjab Yatra'. Even for the Congress party, the situation is becoming complicated. One thing is clear people will not go by bollow announcements and media propaganda on development. The ground realities would matter at the end of the day.</span></p></blockquote><p></p>
