Tejwant ji Rather than reply to your questions, may I use them as guides to considering economic and moral issues? I did some background research. There is a veritable league of advocates for breast milk, most of the advocacy claiming that breast milk has 'amazing' medicinal properties. There is no scientific basis for the claims. It is all at this point part of the popular culture. Let's keep focused on the topic of breast milk for adults only. It is claimed that breast milk is an effective cure for leg ulcers, and a host of other ailments, including post-surgical recovery. What is the scientific evidence for this? Not one but two moral issues rise up, without any real scientific information as back-up. 1. A cost/benefit question: Even if breast milk is an effective cure, it might be a more expensive cure than another more obvious treatment. Hence, breast milk vendors take people to the cleaners, and the advocates and enthusiasts are helping them do it, in spite of a cheaper and equally effective solution. 2. Ignoring real causes of disease: Even if breast milk clears up leg ulcers, leg ulcers are symptoms of serious and even life-threatening diseases. Diabetes and lymphodema are both complicated by leg ulcers. A person applying breast milk to ulcers and seeing results can end up thinking a cure has taken place --- and diabetes is actually lurking undetected. Which in turn can lead to blindness, heart disease, and many other serious problems. including death. I could not find any recognizably medical research on medicinal uses of breast milk which makes me think that it will definitely take off in popular culture because of its novelty. We have a winner with breast milk. Lactating women might want to sell their own breast milk, independently cutting out the middle man. Questions of sanitation and hygiene might crop up, as did with the plain old dairy farms of days gone by. Governments may bring breast milk under the control of food and drug monitoring. Because breast milk is a food, not a drug, close monitoring may not be required. An entire food lobby, the breast milk lobby, can emerge, if it has not already. Using political clout to prevent regulation - as we are very aware with the food supplement industry they could be very effective, (duping important political figures like Senator Orin Hatch who was a powerful sponsor of the wildflower Mormon tea, aka Ephedra, a powerful neurotransmitter which can kill a person.) So we have a busy future ahead with breast milk. Who would have thought it more than the best way to nourish a baby? Ahead: unionization of lactating women, lots of browser hijaking web pages that will sell subscriptions on auto pay after you listen to an endless video lecture, YouTube channels, congressional hearings, FDA or its equivalent in other countries ruling on packaging and distribution, price wars and price fixing, bogey claims and popular truths. Someone will be making big money; it won't be the lactating moms. Someone will be paying out money better spent in a different way; it won't be spent on scientifically sound products. Oh yes! and rat milk, dog milk, horse milk, mink milk passed off as breast milk. Maybe even bribes and pay-offs of officials on that score. Which means lots of scandal, and that is good for paying sponsors of the nightly news.
