I've been reading the history of India, specifically the Punjab. Of course, you can't read much about the history of this area without getting into stories of the Muslim conquerors and their techniques of "converting" the natives to Islam (their sacred duty) by any means necessary. Long story short -- it's nauseating and enfuriating. An outrage. But not surprising. It got me to wondering about reincarnation and karma. See, my life has been devoted to social justice for a few years now and the plight of the Palestinians has been one of the issues I have spoken out about. The last few months I've read more and more about the Muslims history, as well as current actions and beliefs. When I was reading about all the slaughters and tortures and various means of convert-or-die type jihad the thought popped up in my mind: "I wonder if what the Muslims are going through now is just karma?" Do you think that karma can reach across generations like that? Is it possible that the horrendous things Muslims are going through today is sort of a karmic payback for all the unspeakable atrocities they have committed in the name of Islam over the generations? Not meant to offend. I'm genuinetly curious about this. Because it seems like some of the things Muslims are going through today are very similar to what they've dished out down through the years. I'll be ruthlessly honest about my feeling here and admit that, when I read these atrocities that were done to the people of India (not to mention the other areas of Muslim conquests) there was a part of me that felt less compassionate about what they're going through now. Sort of like, "Huh... maybe they're getting their just deserts." That was pretty petty and spiteful of me, wasn't it? I mean, many of the people suffering now are innocent children. But then, so were the innocent children orphaned and slaughtered during Muslim conquest and jihad.
