OVER 900,000 SIKHS Have Became Shahids from 1521 to March 2012, for TRUTH, HONESTY, Freedom of faith a & Humanity! According to available records, it is said over 900,000 Sikhs attained martyrdom-shahidi -from the times of Guru Nanak ji up to march 2012, covering a span of 491 years.During the attack upon India by the Mughal tyrant King Babur, two Sikhs of Guru Nanak Ji became shahids. From that period up to now ,the names of all shahids, their place of birth, their parents names and places of shahid etc has been collated and covered in a book being prepared, following research over a 2.5 year period by Bhai Sukhdev Singh, Kathavacak, Chandigarh. This directory covers very valuable information related to the Sikh history and some of it has probably not even been heard or known before to Sikh sangats. In the attack upon India in 1521,the Moghul tyrant King Babur put to martyrdom two Sikhs, Bhai Tara and Bhai Popat. Sixty one family members of Bhai Mani Singh, himself a shahid were martyred. 83,055 fully sabat soorat Sikh soldiers were martyred in the first world war alone. It also includes the martyred soldiers of the second world war, who numbered about 115,000. It includes the stories of Sikh soldiers who died fighting the Indian wars against China in 1962.Also included are those that attained martydom in all the wars against Pakistan and the Indian Independence movement. There are also stories of Sikhs who were martyred abroad and much more information, some of which has been forgotten by people. Lot of references were sought, cross referenced and looked at.Thus some new facts came to light that were practically unknown or forgotten in Sikh history. The story of Sikh martyrdom actually began in 1521, when 10 year old Bhai Tara was helping to put out fires, started by Babur's butchering army.Later Bhai Popat Ji was martyred trying to save a family, from the butcherous Babur army. During partition thousands of Sikh women qued to jump into wells, rather than fall into the hands of marauding murderous gangs of butcherous killers roaming the country side lawlessly, in the name of religion. Look out for this book, which must be a good read for everyone proud of their history. Gurcharan Singh Kamuning Hills, Malaysia.
